Name external subtitles for same-folder discovery
Keep subtitles beside the video with a matching base name so the player can associate them.
1.Match the base filename
For Movie (2024).mkv, use a name such as Movie (2024).zh-Hans.srt. Keep season and episode identifiers such as S01E01 for TV subtitles.
2.Check subtitle access
The subtitle must be readable through the source. Cloud, NAS, and server authorization still applies; video access does not grant access to arbitrary subtitle paths.
3.Select it in the player
Open the subtitle list and check the language, text encoding, and timing. If discovery fails, use the client’s external-subtitle picker to load one known file.
Before you finish
- Base names and episode numbers match
- The subtitle is readable
- Timing matches the video
